I am the First Mate on Impossible Dream. We are a fully wheelchair accessible catamaran and a non-profit that provides free sails to rehabilitation patients, disability organizations, veterans' groups, & children and their families. The mission of Impossible Dream is to make the experience of being out on the water and being a valuable crew member universally accessible regardless of disability. For many of our guests and crew, this may be the first time since their injury or indeed ever, that they have experienced the incredible sense of freedom and delight that being out on the ocean can bring.
We are in need of a new deck for Impossible Dream. The wear and tear on our deck goes above and beyond that of a typical boat. While most boats require all passengers to remove their shoes, over 1,000 wheelchairs roll across Impossible dream's deck each year. A power wheelchair can weigh over 700lbs and, over time, our deck has taken a beating. After 17 years in operation our deck is more than well loved and needs to be replaced. A new deck will allow thousands of more wheelchairs to roll aboard Impossible dream for years to come!
There is no fee for sailing on Impossible Dream. We rely solely on generous donors like you to help us continue our mission to bring laughter and lasting memories to as many people as possible. Impossible Dream will be beginning our 2019 voyage at the end May, traveling from Miami, FL to Maine and back over a period of five months!
